Are you prepared for Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
14th November 2019
Black Friday occurs in the US the day after Thanksgiving and traditionally signals a nationwide retail sales day featuring heavily discounted goods, much like our Boxing Day sales here in Australia.
Most Australians are unaware of Black Friday, yet it has been gaining momentum here in the last three years. It heralds massive discounts of up to 50% off online sales of clothing, whitegoods, travel and electronics.
Australian retailers are cottoning on to the growing trend and are joining the Black Friday concept to sell online discounted goods to clear stock prior to the Christmas rush. Both online merchants as well as traditional retailers such as eBay, Kogan, JB Hi-Fi, eBay, Amazon, Myer, the Good Guys, Harvey Norman and EB Games are all taking part in a considerable way.
What is Black Friday?
As Thanksgiving is on the fourth Thursday of November, Black Friday occurs on November 29 in Australia. Black Friday in America is the start of the Christmas shopping season and acquired its name from the revenue generated, advancing store accounts into the black.
Online merchants such as eBay, Kogan, JB Hi-Fi and Amazon are also gearing up for Black Friday sales in Australia. Local retailers such as Myers, the Good Guys, Harvey Norman and EB Games have published their Black Friday catalogues, which you can see here on the My Catalogue website.
What is Cyber Monday?
Cyber Monday started far more recently but has established itself quickly in its own niche focusing on heavily discounted software prices as well as online retail. Because Australia is a day ahead, Cyber Monday normally occurs on our Monday night into Tuesday if you are looking to grab a bargain online.
What does this mean for our distributors?
It would be wise for our distributors to be prepared for the potential extra orders that will hopefully be rolling in over the Black Friday weekend. This includes bubble wrap, strapping and stretch wrap as there should be a high demand for packaging consumables during this period.
